UNRAVEL – Endless   Night

Some nights, even your pillow quits first…

Created in collaboration with the exceptionally talented photographer Nicky Hamilton, this production blends practical photography with surreal CGI to transform an ordinary workshop into a visual metaphor for invisible discomfort.

Seen from above, a woman lies in bed, clutching her pillow. An erythema on her shoulder becomes the invisible trigger of a quiet disruption. The pillow, symbol of comfort and rest, begins to unravel into delicate strips of fabric, as if sleep itself were losing consistency.
The concept explores how physical irritation can transform rest into tension, fragility replacing reassurance. Our challenge was to visualize how a small physical irritation can quietly steal an entire night’s rest. Because sometimes sleep doesn’t disappear all at once, it slowly comes apart.

The concept extends into a  15″ second looping film, where the unraveling never truly ends, just like a restless night.

LAYOUT

The top-down composition required precise spatial planning.
Through sketches and digital previews, we defined the geometry of the scene and the direction of fragmentation to preserve clarity and emotional focus.

Illness

The erythema was sculpted digitally with attention to surface irregularities and chromatic variation.
Integration focused on blending micro-details with skin texture and ambient light to maintain authenticity.

UNRAVEL

The pillow was reconstructed in 3D and progressively tested to achieve a believable disintegration.
Fabric behavior, softness, and internal volume were carefully simulated to ensure that the unraveling felt materially coherent rather than graphic or stylized.

Compositing

Each layer was calibrated to maintain tonal balance between subject and environment. Subtle grading and depth refinement enhanced the sense of immersion without overpowering the photographic base. The final image was developed in collaboration with colorist Stefano Cherubini, whose work helped preserve the natural balance between the photographic plate and the digital intervention.

A cinemagraph version extends the concept into motion.
A minimal shoulder movement, combined with the continuous unraveling of the pillow, reinforces the emotional instability of the scene while maintaining visual restraint.
